Community & Vocation (Derek Marpole)
In 2011 we assisted Somerset Music with the 22nd South Somerset Music Spectacular where some 1,100 children from 37 local schools performed on stage in front of parents and friends over 3 nights
We worked with the Rotary Club of Yeovil to hold an “It’s Childsplay” sponsored walk in May and raised over £7,500 for Children’s Hospice South West
We held a “Golf in the Dark” (yes, really!) To raise funds for the Air Ambulance and Yeovil Freewheelers
We gave practical assistance to Yeovil Opportunity Group (power washing the playground, providing a website) as well as finance to refurbish their kitchen
Youth Activities (Martin Deady)
We work with Stanchester School in Stoke sub Hamdon to provide Senior Student Training and Practice Interviews
We arrange a local round of the Rotary Youth Speaks Competition for Intermediate Age (11-13 years)
We are hoping to be able to run a competition for Rotary Young Musician
International (Chris Chapman)
We have very close ties with Mufulira (Zambia) working with the Rotary Club of Mufulira and for the last few years one of our members has been able to visit them. Apart from (considerable) financial help in conjunction with grants from Rotary Foundation, we have also been instrumental in establishing ties with Yeovil District Hospital and a number of medics have also been able to visit.
Additionally we have continued to provide finance for both the ShelterBox and World Water Works emergency boxes
Foundation (Lindsay Wilson)
Our club continues to support Rotary Foundation with donations and also the “Thanks for Life” project working with the WHO and Bill Gates Foundation to eliminate Polio. Early in 2011 we were able to plant some 5,000 purple crocus bulbs with the kind co-operation of Montacute House
Fundraising
We have recently held a Golfing day jointly with the Rotary Club of Yeovil to raise funds for our charities
Having held a Classic Car Show in 2009 and 2010, we are hoping to hold a much bigger similar event in 2012 to raise funds for various charities
In May 2011 we held a “Metallic Magic” fundraising event in East Coker when we raised over £1,500 for “Help for Heroes” and our continued projects with Mufulira

Our club helps local, national and international charities both through charitable fund-raising activities and through the undertaking of various practical tasks where possible. We also enjoy a full social calendar and, above all, have FUN. In the year ended June 2010 we distributed over £15,000 to charities
We currently have 30 members but welcome new members  - both men and women. Membership is strictly by invitation but please contact us if you feel able to give something back to the community. We adhere to the Rotary motto of “Service above Self”
