The Rotary Clubs of Yeo Vale and Yeovil present “It’s Childsplay”
"It's Childsplay"is a Rotary sponsored walk at various locations throughout the counties in the South West in support of the children's hospices in the region. There will be at least ten separate "its Childsplay" events taking place on Sunday May 2nd in Somerset, Devon & Dorset and the Yeovil event will be supporting Somerset's Children's Hospice at Charlton Farm, Wraxhall.
This important regional charity is dedicated to making the most of short and precious lives, providing support and hospice care for children with illnesses that mean they will die before reaching adulthood. The charity has running costs of £6 million per year, with only 5% coming from public funds.
Taking part: The event is open to all: children, scouts, cadet forces, parents, clubs, local business teams etc. The only criterion is that each individual tries to be sponsored for a minimum of £10 (more would be nice). Everyone who registers will receive an "It's Childsplay" T-Shirt to wear on the day and keep.Anyone who can walk, run or even be pushed in a wheelchair will be welcome.
Start/Finish: People may choose both where to start and at what time, provided they arrive at the finishing point, which is at Yeovil Country Park (Nine Springs) adjacent to Goldenstones Swimming Pool, between noon and 5pm.
The Distance: The distance to be walked - 100 yards, a mile, two, three or more - is the choice of the individual.Any distance is acceptable, provided it is sponsored. For those who may prefer to walk within the Yeovil Country Park boundaries, there are established routes of varying lengths from a few hundred yards to 6 miles. There is even a young person's nature trail with an en route quiz. Trail guide maps will be provided.
Facilities: There will be a tent in the park for late on-day registration and issue of T-Shirts for walkers, and where forms and monies will be collected on completion. (Please make cheques payable to "It's Childsplay"). There will also be under cover refreshment facilities. Public car parking is available at Goldenstones.
